Two years ago Apple decided to remove the standard 3.5 mm headphone jack from all version of iPhone starting with the 7. Since then two more phones have been released and most manufactures have been scrambling to come up with a viable solution outside of the lightning to 3.5 mm dongle that is included with your latest iPhone.
What is MFi?
Most cables/adapters that you will find on Amazon and similar sites will not be MFi (Made for iPhone) certified. The reason why this is important is because although the cable may be on the cheaper side, MFi certified manufactures have to adhere to Apple process and grants them access to their lightning chips. Non MFi cables have knockoff lightning chips which can potentially burn out your phones motherboard, lightning port in addition to becoming a unusable paper weight if Apple chooses to implement a code that disables unsupported cables like they did with iOS 10.3. We all remember the dreaded “Device not supported” message and hopefully have learned our lesson, Headset Buddy certainly did.
Headset Buddy offers!
Last year we introduced, the Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter. This cable is very similar to the one that comes with your iPhone but with quality improvements.
- Aluminum casing to the 3.5 and lightning sides which allows for pulling and tugging on both plugs without causing damage outside of typical wear and tear (re: scratches).
- The Apple only version comes in white where as ours will be initially released in light grey and jet black a few months later.
- Mic and audio control. The current iPhone cable does not support phone calls, Siri and music playback (fast forward/previous). Plain and simply, ours does.
So, if you are not ready to throw away your 3.5 mm headphones we some adapters that might be able to help use them with the iPhone 7, 7 plus, 8, 8 Plus, iPhone X, XS, XR, XR Max, 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.
