Product Overview

Our Headset Buddy allows you to record from mic-level outputs such as dynamic microphones, wireless microphone systems, and other battery-operated microphones.

  • Use a dynamic or battery-operated microphone as an external mic on your smartphone or tablet
  • Not for use with ECM mics such as battery-less lavalier, pc, or headset mics
  • Works with most smartphones that have a combined headset and mic jack
  • Passive DC blocking/isolation and impedance matching allows for use of many different types of microphones
  • Works with two mics at a time, just use a splitter!
  • Crystal clear sound recording, 100% guaranteed
How it Works:
  1. Plug the Mic-Line Dynamic into your device’s headset jack.*

  2. Plug your microphone into the Mic-Line Dynamic (Coral)

  3. The device will recognize that an external mic is connected and turn its internal mic off allowing you to record using the external microphone.

*You will need a lightning, USB-C, or USB adapter depending on your device. Please note: Apple brand lightning adapters DO NOT work on iPhones besides iPhone 12.

Combine your Headset Buddy Mic-Line with any of these adapters for more uses:

PLEASE NOTE: This adapter is NOT for PC mics or mics that do not have batteries. Please see our "ECM Mic to Smartphone Adapter" adapter for this. Also, sound input for smartphone connections is mono. You are able to input stereo sound; however, only one side of the microphone will work.

Specs:
-3.5mm male to 3.5mm female
-Attenuation 0dBV
-TRRS(male end), TRS(female end)
-Cord length 12 inches
-CTIA

FAQ

Question: Will this adapter work with a stereo mic?

Answer: The combined headset jack on the iPhone and other devices only has a mono mic input so you cannot record in stereo. Most recording apps split the mono signal into both left/right channels when recording so the audio will play back in both ears. You can connect a stereo mic to this adapter but only one side of the mic will be active; if you use a stereo-to-mono adapter on your mic then it will make both mics active. There is a new stereo microphone product available which will allow for stereo recording using the docking connector; this is currently the only option available for stereo recording, Tascam IM2 stereo mic.

Q: Why do I need a different adapter for a lavaliere mic that does not have batteries?

A: Lavaliere mics, PC mics and headset mics are typically ECM mics (electret condenser mics) and all ECM mics require power to operate. If your ECM mic does not have batteries then you need the –ECM version of the adapter which allows the iPhone (or other device) to power the mic.

Q: Can I connect two microphones for doing interviews?

A: Yes, you can use a standard 3.5mm splitter adapter to connect two microphones which will combine the signals from both microphones into this adapter. Alternately, you could use a small mixer to combine the signals from multiple microphones into this adapter.

Q: Will this work with the latest versions of iPhone that have removed the 3.5 mm headphone jack?

A: Yes! However you will need to use either the lightning to 3.5mm adapter that came with your iPhone or purchase one of ours, which can be found here
